UNSW Kokikai Aikido Club
------------------------------------------

Shuji Ozeki Sensei opened an Aikido Kokikai dojo at the UNSW gymnasium in September 1989.

This was the first Kokikai dojo in Australia. Ozeki Sensei taught regularly, every lesson for three years, then handed over regular teaching to his senior students. His most senior student was Antony Davies, graded to shodan in 1992. Ozeki Sensei then taught less frequently, but kept a close eye on the dojo for the next seven years.

A number of other Kokikai Aikido dojos have now sprung up around Australia, most of them taught by Ozeki Sensei's students from UNSW, or by their students. Maruyama Sensei, Ozeki Sensei's teacher and the founder of Aikido Kokikai International, has visited UNSW dojo four times, to teach and conduct dan gradings.

Currently, classes are taught regularly by Allen Iu and Glen Davison. Shuji Ozeki Sensei studied Aikido in Japan for thirteen years before moving to Sydney in 1989. He currently has a fourth-dan black belt. Ozeki Sensei's home is Seki City, a historic town known for making blades for swords and tools. Like his father and brother, he is a Japanese chef. After working and teaching Aikido in Sydney for ten years, Ozeki Sensei has moved back to Japan temporarily.
